Activity A.1: Online learning session

On November 13, 2023, UNISS organized an online learning session including lectures held by professors and PhD students on subjects strictly connected to the relationship between the sea and maritime/marine environments.

Participants were offered the opportunity to learn more about how Mediterranean coastal communities are currently relating to the sea and how the latter is used, protected, conserved or managed by them.

The following presentations were moderated by Tonito Solinas, International Relations Officer of the University of Sassari:

  1. Bottom-up Participation Processes, by Dr. Valentina Ghibellini, Department of Humanities and Social Science, University of Sassari.
  2. The Sea: a juridical perspective by Dr. Marcella Lamon, Research fellow at the Department of Law, University of Sassari.
  3. The Sea: a biological perspective by Professor Giulia Ceccherelli, Full Professor at the Department of Biomedical Science, University of Sassari.
  4. “City project and Marine spatial planning” by Professor Silvia Serreli, Full Professor at the Department of Humanities and Social Science, and the Department of Architecture, Design and City Planning, University of Sassari.
  5. Blue growth: a social science and economic perspective by Professor Marco Vannini, Full Professor at the Department of Business and Economics, University of Sassari.
  6. The European Alliances Initiative: what is it and how will it impact you? by Petra Frent and Eloi Bigas, consultants at SIRIS Academic.
  7. Closing remarks by Tonito Solinas, International Relations Officer of the University of Sassari.

The online session was designed to offer a wider perspective on the complexity of maritime and marine activities, and also the potential for cross-sector interplay between diverse fields of expertise.
