25-26/09 - Stand of the Uniss departments

Each Department of the University of Sassari manages a stand with scientific exhibitions, workshops and other activities to involve the public and bring it closer to the research and work of researchers and researchers.

The stands are animated by researchers and researchers and students and students of the associations active in the departments.

september 25 (morning): various activities will be proposed with the aim of bringing children closer to the world of research in a fun and engaging way. The activities, all designed to stimulate their curiosity and interest in science, will focus on small practical experiments and games that allow children to experience scientific concepts in a playful way. 

september 26 (morning): presentation of specific activities relating to the different professionalism belonging to the department: from the study of chemistry to entomology, from the most recent air monitoring systems of agricultural crops to artificial intelligence applied in the agro-zootechnical sector, with the aim of bringing young people to the world of research and science.  

september 26 (evening): the popularizers of the Agricultural Department will present to visitors the multidisciplinarity of the activities conducted in the Department, telling the new challenges towards the sustainability of our territory, with particular reference to the implications on the livestock, forestry and productions sectors vegetables and food transformation and specificity such as the control of pathogens, insects or pollutants.

september 25 (morning): the participants will be proposed the Laboratory of Land Laboratory on the preparation for risks. On the sidelines, cases of projects and projects of projects, workshops and scientific teams will be presented, among these the project "The city and the climate: urban planning and design for resilience to floods and urban heat islands".

september 26 (morning): the theme of the history of remediation in the ancient world will be addressed, with the support of graphic and photographic material. On the sidelines, presentation of cases study and project experiences, workshops and scientific teams. Among these, the project "Innovative and inclusive policies for urban regeneration and living: the demand for home and a quality urban space; policies, plans and projects for greater accessibility to living".

The stand of the Department of Law - through a multidisciplinary approach that intertwines law, history, philosophy and political, economic and social sciences - proposes a path of reflection on the theme of peace. Interactive activities, short conferences and simulations, designed for different school levels and for different age groups, will offer the public the opportunity to ask themselves about the need to build or safeguard peace.

september 25 (morning): through role -playing games, quizzes, creative workshops and interactive activities, students and students of primary and secondary schools will be guided to explore the value of peace, the basis of peaceful coexistence and the role of the rules in promoting relationships between people. 

september 26 (morning): the students and students of secondary schools, with their respective families, will be involved in a path of reflection on peace, mutual respect, mediation, listening and dialogue. The activity aims to stimulate active participation, critical thinking and awareness of the role that everyone can play in the construction of peace.

september 25-26 (morning): the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Pharmacy presents the scientific-divulgative path "The science that protects", a program aimed at enhancing the impact of university research on public health. The initiative intends to promote the culture of prevention and well -being through an itinerary that explores, in an integrated way, the connections between healthy lifestyles and the correct functioning of the main biological systems. With the aim of sensitizing the population on the importance of conscious daily choices, the project is divided into specific thematic areas: hands hygiene and the fight against antimicrobial-stay, pharmaceuticals, neurosciences, cardiology and oncological prevention.

september 26 (evening): information and interactive activities will be proposed to the generic public, in particular to families, to raise awareness of the importance of correct adhesion to preventive activities, regarding issues of extreme relevance, such as infectious and chronic degenerative diseases (tumors), precision medicine and the fight against AMR.

25 and 26 September (morning): Edutainment activities, projections and other interaction activities on zoonosis, stray prevention, nutrition and behavior of animals will be proposed. 
In the Pet corner outside, inside the public gardens (corner of Viale Mancini - Viale Italia) Assisted Education Laboratory with animals EAA (dogs), which aims to increase the closeness with the animal by perfecting observation, interpretation and identification. The path also wants to improve the communication skills of the child/boy (mimic communication, gestural, kinetics) to increase his interaction with the group and comparison with himself. The development of empathy, models and rules will favor, facilitating the sense of self -efficacy, self -esteem behind a balanced and harmonious development, fundamental factors for children and young people in pursuing their objectives in general and specifically school.

september 26 (evening): the activities that take place at a university veterinary didactic hospital (Odvu) will be presented, with specific reference to that of the University of Sassari. Among these, the observation under the microscope of showcases containing biological material (for example blood or seminal material), cardiopulmonary resuscitation performed on mannequins, the vision of movies with diagnostic procedures (endoscopies). In addition, the teachers and students will be available to provide information on what a veterinary didactic hospital is and how it works.

september 25 (morning): two experiential activities 
Experimenting: to discover the starch and its digestion. Simple experiences that lead students to understand what starch is and in which foods it is contained, how its dePolimerization happens during digestion and what are the effects of some experimental variables. 
Illusions between mind and brain, between sciences and art. Visual illusions usually generate a strong sense of amazement, wonder and aesthetic appreciation. Demonstration of the most important and spectacular optical illusions, the explicit of their scientific meaning between mind and brain, between science and art.

september 26 (morning): two experiential activities: 
Inside the invisible life: exploring cells and microbes in the laboratory. Interactive laboratory to discover the microscopic world that surrounds us and lives there. We will observe different cellular types under the microscope, from unicellular microorganisms to human eukaryotic cells. We will also simulere, a bacterial infection in culture and test the effectiveness of antibiotics in contrasting microbial growth. 
Estimation of the aging trajectory - Fitness Age. The estimate of the motor-functional age is based on the execution of a few simple motor tests that allow us to estimate if the tested subject is aging more or less quickly. The proposed experience will consist in administering these tests in about 5 minutes and to reason with the participants on the importance of an active lifestyle for healthy aging.

september 26 (evening): two experiential activities. 
Brain operation and emotional reactions . Use of an increased reality viewer, with immersive experiences, designed to make known the functioning of the brain and some emotional reactions, associated with a small device capable of detecting body signals, such as heartbeat and sweating, to better understand how we react in certain situations. 
Laboratory test: DNA Banana extraction. In this experience we will separate the DNA molecule with a nuclear and cellular envelope, making it visible to the naked eye. The protocol that we will follow involves the use of materials available in each house. Experience will help to practically understand the fundamental principles of the DNA extraction process.

In particular, a demonstration of molecular cuisine will be carried out by investigating the foundations of the pastry. There will be the possibility to have the participants perform, both small and large, this pasta technique... With any final tasting!

september 26 (evening): simple laboratory experiences will be proposed, which will serve to explain how in the chemical transformations of matter there is nothing magical and everything is attributable to atoms and molecules that combine with each other.

september 25 (morning): games, interactive quizzes and popular activities related to some research projects carried out by the Department will be proposed. In particular, to stimulating the themes of sustainability and artificial intelligence applied to food management in the catering sector in a stimulating way.

september 26 (morning): and to discuss the results of a caption search project. Through the use of diversified multimedia material and the active involvement of students will promote the role of scientific research in the complex process of controlling greenhouse gas emissions in order to encourage the sustainability of the economic system and to contrast climate change. 

september 26 (evening): the results of the Ecotess research project (circular economy in the Sardinian textile sector) will be presented and discussed. Through the use of diversified multimedia material and the active involvement of those present, the role of scientific research in the complex passage towards the circularity of companies in the textile sector in Sardinia will be promoted.

september 26 (evening): from 2021 the members of the Tuniso-Italian Archaeological Mission directed by Prof. Samir Aounallah of the Institut National Du Patrimoine de Tunisie and by Prof. Paola Ruggeri of the Department of History, Man and Training Sciences (DISUF) of the University of Sassari co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Banco di Sardegna Foundation, They wish to present the research carried out to Thignica and those that will be conducted during the excavation campaign to be held in October in October. The director Paola Ruggeri and some of the archaeologists and epigraphists of the Disup who will be engaged in the field in Tunisia will participate in the event.

Small programmable electronic devices will be shown and power and practical use will be demonstrated.

The University of Sassari presents the Eunicoast alliance, The European Alliance of Islands, Ports and Coastal Territories, coordinated by the University of Le Havre Normandie. The 12 partner universities extend from Finland to Bulgaria, from French antilles to Germany, creating a unique network of coastal and insular institutions. 

Through interactive activities, the opportunities of the alliance and its five strategic thematic areas will be explored: identity and cultural heritage of the coastal communities; Blue circular economy and sustainable tourism; Governance and coastal resource management; Health, biodiversity and natural solutions; Marine technologies and sustainable infrastructures.

The project is financed by the European Union through Erasmus+funds.
