Our university The University of Sassari (UNISS), with its main headquarters in the heart of the city, extends its academic presence in several key locations in Sardinia, including Alghero, Olbia, Nuoro and Oristano . With a student population that counts over 13,000 members , the University represents a fundamental educational reference point for the island and attracts students from all over Italy, thanks also to a teaching staff of over 600 professors and researchers . The University is structured in 11 Departments, 63 study courses and 10 Doctorate courses which offer a wide range of training courses in both the humanities and sciences, delivered both in person and via distance learning (e-learning). Sassari and Sardinia The main headquarters of the University is located in Sassari, the main city in northern Sardinia, with a population of approximately 130,000 inhabitants. It is the second largest city on the island and has significant economic, political and cultural importance.Sassari is located on a limestone plateau, about ten kilometers from the sea, at an altitude of 225 meters above sea level, on the edge of the plain that slopes towards the sea of Porto Torres. The area enjoys a mild and temperate climate all year round.Sardinia is an Italian island located in the Mediterranean Sea, with approximately 2000 kilometers of coastline characterized by sandy beaches, and a mountainous hinterland crossed by numerous hiking trails.
