"Camillo Bellieni" Hall

Sala Camillo Bellieni

Raised in Thiesi, in the distant 1916, at the University of Sassari, the historian and political graduated in law Camillo Bellieni . In 1943 he became a librarian. He is entitled to him Council Chamber of the Sassarese University , whose motivation makes us understand the importance of his thought: "representing his ideals consistently, he defended the fundamental rights of freedom and equality, thanks to his sense of institutions and commitment for the redemption of Sardinian people. Beautiful it is, perhaps, the most representative and multifaceted figure of contemporary Sardinism ”.

For too much time obscured and underestimated both at the historiographic and political level compared to other important personalities of the twentieth century, Bellieni represents an example of intellectual whose international relations he entertained allow to ascribe his name in Italian and European political history.

The Sassarese university, with the name of his beautiful council hall, wanted to return to this intellectual the place he deserves in the secular pantheon of the Sardinian thinkers.

The room is used for the convocations of Academic senate and of the Board of Directors . The meetings are foreseen on a monthly basis. The classroom can contain a total of about forty seats. It has recently been modernized from a technological point of view. It is in fact possible to carry out videoconferences and recordings .

In the anteroom stands a single picture, The Guardian of the time , commissioned by the rector, today emeritus, Attilio Mastino , to the living artist, master Mariano Chelo . The work represents the Knight who, with Lancia in Rest (the long minute lancet), intends to defend the time of study and research. It is one that the other have for the painter the task of forming the army (all indiscriminately) whose task is to defend the sciences and the arts, the only elements capable of evolving man. So defending the past, says Maestro Chelo, to design the future.
