Aula Magna The decoration of the Aula Magna was made by Mario Delitala , painter with considerable experience in the decoration of public, civil and religious buildings. Delitalla in 1926 he won the competition established to assign the classroom decoration work. In the 1928 he signed the contract and began his work, carrying it out in the 1930. The paintings have as its object events concerning the history of the University of Sassari and they resume the round shape of the windows, for a carefully studied formal coherence. In the first painting, The anatomy school of the Municipality of Sassari , the closed and not very enlightened environment of the room used as an anatomy classroom is a clear homage to Tintoretto and its pictorial language set up on the chiaroscuro contrasts. The light, in antithesis with the shadow, in fact lightens the matter and highlights the master's orchestration of colors. The second painting, located in the wall at the bottom of the Aula Magna, has by title The founder of the first college of studies and represents the culminating moment in which Fountain , sitting on the right of a table that brings together the other four characters - on the left a Jesuit, testamentary executor - explains his will. The artist's ability to encourage and contrast the colors is manifested: from yellow to blue, to purple, to the various shades of red. The third painting, The municipality of Sassari obtains the "Carta Real" from the registry of Madrid from Madrid , describes the following stage in the history of the University: in 1632 the college founded by Fontana is transformed into " General study "Seeing the academic degrees recognized in philosophy and theology and at the same time the legal status of university of Royal Law. Delitala in this canvas creates a deep spatiality, of evident Veronesian ancestry, through an architectural frame that acquires a monumental rhythm in the balustrade staircase, at the foot of which the two main characters stand out, accompanied by the two sides by others, executors of a solemn act and Decisive for the University of Sassari. Under the largest canvas in the room there is an imposing chair part of the project, whose location has been conceived on the example of other magne classrooms such as those of Perugia and of Padua . The whole room is adorned with simple stucco decorations; Delitala had also designed ornamental motifs and supports in the inter-pilastri where later the round represented the faces of illustrious characters and scholars who had contributed to the fame of the University: Giovanni Francesco Fara , Luigi Rolando , Giuseppe Manno , Domenico Alberto Azuni , Pasquale Tola , Father F. Gemelli and Father F. Cetti . The decoration of the ceiling is made up of an allegorical painting that depicts two male and two female figures, naked and sculptural, constituting the allegory of the four faculties at that time present at the University of Sassari: Jurisprudence , Veterinary , Medicine and Pharmacy . The four faculties were identifiable by the colors of the ribbons, blue, green, red and lilac, who unravel from the arms of the characters and wrap around the coat of arms. The door was also designed by Delitala with pilasters, architrave and storms in stuccos and marble panels in which the names of the fallen were engraved in the Great War 1915-1918.
