Recognition of International Language Certifications

CLA has prepared a table - purely indicative - with the main international language certifications and their equivalencies with the Council of Europe levels. The table takes into account the indications and quality criteria for the identification of international certifications expressed by the AICLU (Italian Association of University Language Centers).

Since the recognition of international certifications is the responsibility of individual Courses of Study, students in possession of an international certification among those listed in the table must request its recognition directly from their Course of Study. Each Course of Study is also responsible for defining the assessment (aptitude or grade in thirtieths) to be awarded. For advice on the definition of the grade in thirtieths, it is advisable to contact the teacher of the foreign language teaching to which the certification refers. It is also recommended that the maximum grade be awarded for certifications at a level higher than that stipulated by the teaching for which recognition is sought. In compliance with the regulations, each Course of Study may also independently recognize the validity of certifications and certificates not included in this list; in this case, the CLA makes itself available to express an opinion on the matter.

Following the AICLU's guidance regarding obsolescence of skills, whereby a certificate issued after a certain period of time may not correspond to the student's current level of competence, subject to the autonomy of each Course of Study, it is believed that the time validity of certification for title validation cannot be more than two calendar years from the date of certificate issuance.
