DITALS Level II Exam

Level II DITALS is a certification exam that attests to advanced competence in teaching Italian to foreigners and is intended for teachers working in any teaching context and with any group of learners.

ACCESS PREREQUISITES

To enter the exam, the candidate must meet each of the prerequisites listed below:

1. Language skills.
For candidates whose native language is not Italian, proficiency in Italian at the C2 level attested by one of the following qualifications is required:
- CEFR level C2 international certification of Italian 
- secondary school degree obtained in Italy or at Italian schools abroad
- degree in Italian studies obtained abroad

2. Qualification
Bachelor's degree (at least three years) in any field.

3. Glottodidactic training 
At least 30 hours of glottodidactic training acquired in one of the following ways:

- Level I DITALS course at the University for Foreigners of Siena

- Level I DITALS course at DITALS monitored institutions

- 3 online modules organized by the DITALS Center of the University for Foreigners of Siena

- passing a university examination in the glottodidactic area of at least 6 CFU.

4. Teaching experience
At least 300 hours of teaching in Italian classes to foreigners in Italy or abroad (note a).

Those who hold Level I DITALS Certification (or CEDILS and DILS Certifications) can enter the Level II DITALS exam with the following requirements:

1. Language skills.
Candidates whose native language is not Italian are required to possess a C2 level of proficiency in Italian (see required qualifications above).

2. Qualifications.
At least a bachelor's degree in any field.

3. Glottodidactic training.

At least 6 hours of integrative glottodidactic training acquired in one of the following ways:

- DITALS course on Classroom Management at the University for Foreigners of Siena

- DITALS course on Classroom Management at DITALS monitored institutions

- DITALS online module on Classroom Management

- passing a university examination in the area of glottodidactics of at least 3 CFUs

4. Teaching Experience.

At least 60 hours of teaching Italian to foreigners or internship in Italian classes to foreigners in Italy or abroad (note b) or full API pathway, in addition to the hours already taken to enter the Level I DITALS exam.

(a) The hours of teaching Italian L2 can be carried out at state schools, state universities, CPIAs, ASILS schools, managing bodies, Italian schools abroad, DITALS affiliated and monitored bodies, CILS affiliated bodies. In the event that the candidate has performed the required hours at institutions not belonging to the above-listed categories, he/she must attach a certificate of the activity performed to the application for the exam.

(b) Internship in Italian classes for foreigners may be carried out at universities, IICs and DITALS monitored institutions. In the event that the candidate has performed the required hours at institutions not belonging to the above-listed categories, he/she must attach a certification of the activity performed to the examination application.
