The University of Sassari actively interacts with society at the international, national and local levels, collaborates with other public and private institutions and involves citizenship, developing the dissemination of knowledge outside the academic context and contributing to the social growth and cultural direction of the territory.

The University encourages and enhances activities and events with educational, dissemination and social development value that involve the general public and different stakeholders, with particular attention to the impacts and benefits produced on the territory and society.

Public Engagement initiatives are:

  • public events aimed at 'non-experts';
  • popular publications, blogs and interactive websites;
  • participation of the teaching staff in public meetings or radio and television broadcasts;
  • participation in the formulation of public interest programs and in committees for the definition of standards and technical norms;
  • initiatives aimed at health protection, local development and/or land development;
  • interaction activities with secondary and elementary school;
  • outreach initiatives aimed at children, youth and adults who are not part of the academic community.

Third mission database

The University of Sassari, thanks to the technical support of Innovyou srl, has created an innovative monitoring system for Third Mission initiatives implemented on a relational database.

The system, accessible at www.terzamissione.it by any internal user with the unique credentials valid for all the University's online services, allows to upload and monitor all institutional Third Mission activities, divided by field of action:

  • Public Engagement
  • Lifelong Learning and Open Didactics
  • Asset Management and Enhancement for Public Health
  • Intellectual Property Management
  • Academic Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation

The activity contact person(s) will be able to upload Public Engagement and Public Health activities independently; instead, initiatives related to the other Third Mission action areas are uploaded at the Department or University contact person level.

The uploading of the forms includes some mandatory fields in order to save the initiative in draft and then in "open" status, once the activity is completed it must be closed by completing all fields marked as mandatory.
