Home-University Commute Plan

Sustainable mobility

The University of Sassari is committed, through its educational, research, and third mission activities, to pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals (UN 2030 Agenda) and to promoting and testing behaviors that are more respectful of people’s health and the environment—behaviors that are inclusive and capable of enhancing the unique characteristics of the places that host the University’s services.

Among the initiatives undertaken is the drafting of the Home-to-University Travel Plan (PSCU), a document that has been mandatory for public institutions since 2021, pursuant to Italian Law Decree No. 34 of May 19, 2020, art. 229, paragraph 4, converted into Law No. 77 of July 17, 2020. Through this plan, the University of Sassari supports all members of its community (students, researchers, faculty, technical-administrative staff, and library staff) in organizing their commutes between home and their regular place of study or work in a more rational, cost-effective, and responsible manner.

In order to define concrete and truly effective actions to promote more efficient mobility to and from the University of Sassari’s campuses, a survey has been launched to map the most common travel behaviors and preferences in transportation choices for commuting between home and university/workplace.

The information gathered on commuting habits and willingness to change is a fundamental knowledge base for drafting UNISS’s PSCU.
The questionnaire, addressed to the entire UNISS community, was developed following discussions with mobility managers from Italian universities, who are part of the Mobility Working Group of the RUS (Network of Universities for Sustainable Development), established at the initiative of the CRUI, with the aim of sharing experiences implemented by universities in different local contexts.

Recognizing the key role the University of Sassari can play in promoting more sustainable mobility models among its community—and through them, also in the areas hosting the University’s campuses—everyone is invited to take part in the survey.
