PhD Programme Coordinator PhD Course Coordinator: Prof. Carla Cannas Graduated in Chemistry (degree mark 110/110 magna cum laude) in 1996 at the University of Cagliari with a thesis entitled ‘Synthesis and characterisation of Ni-SiO2 nanocomposites’. Since February 2022 she has been Full Professor, SSD CHIM/02, Physical Chemistry, at the University of Cagliari. Her scientific activity is in the field of inorganic materials chemistry, with particular reference to chemical synthesis and correlations between structural, compositional, morphological properties and physical properties (magnetic and optical) or reactivity (catalytic and sorbent properties) of nanosystems. Her scientific activity is documented by more than 138 papers in journals surveyed by the JCR (ISI Journals); one US patent, two book chapters, one critical review and about 130 conference communications. She has an h-index of 42 and over 5000 citations on Scopus and ISIweb. She received the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor in the fields 03/B1 (Fundamentals of Chemical Sciences and Inorganic Systems) and 03/B2 (Chemical Foundations of Technologies). Course Vice-Coordinator and Office Representative for Uniss: Prof. Sebastiano Garroni Sebastiano Garroni is a researcher with almost 10 years of experience in the synthesis and characterisation of materials for energy storage and conversion, including piezoceramics for sensing. Over these years, he has acquired a solid, broad and application-oriented background in the cross-fertilisation of sustainable chemical synthesis and nanostructured materials for energy storage and conversion. His research record is supported by 147 papers (Hindx = 27) published in peer-reviewed journals (source Scopus), two patents, 18 invited talks and 1 plenary (with more than 30 conferences he has attended) presented at international conferences in the fields of green energy carriers, mechanochemistry and functional materials. He is heavily involved in teaching to train young scientists and in popularisation. He has already co-supervised 3 doctoral theses and is supervising another one, as well as more than 10 master's theses. Since November 2021 he has been Associate Professor (Physical Chemistry) at the University of Sassari.
