PhD Day 2024 27 June, Aula Magna This year, the University's Aula Magna once again hosted PhD Day, an event organised by the PhD School in collaboration with the ten PhD Programmes with the aim of enhancing PhDs and making the opportunities offered by the highest level of academic education known to the widest possible audience. After the institutional greetings of Rector Gavino Mariotti, PhD School Director Eugenio Garribba and Research Pro-rector Giuseppe Pulina, it was the turn of the special guest, Prof. Gian Francesco Giudice, Director of the Department of Theoretical Physics at CERN, who gave a lectio magistralis entitled: "The Quantum Universe". A very fascinating and complex topic, made accessible to most by Prof. Giudice's simple but not trivial exposition, which won over the varied audience present in the Aula Magna. On this occasion, the PhD School awarded prizes to the two PhD students who participated in the competition for the best theses in the Science and Humanities areas.Dr. Cinzia Roggio, who obtained her PhD in Archaeology, History and Human Sciences (XXXV cycle), was awarded for her thesis entitled "Bioarchaeology of a medieval population in North-Western Sardinia: the cemetery and ossuary of the abandoned village of Geridu (13th-14th century)".Dr. Giuseppe Garroni, PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Medical Genetics curriculum (XXXIV cycle) awarded for his thesis entitled "Environmental behaviour influences stem cell fate".Like last year, the day culminated with the awarding of parchments to the XXXIV, XXXV and XXXVI cycle PhDs.
