The Medical Simulation Center of the University of Sassari inaugurates teaching activities 9 May 2025 The new Medical Simulation Center of the University of Sassari has officially begun operations, inaugurated on February 27 by the Rector Prof. Gavino Mariotti at the educational center in via Piandanna. The facility is configured as a center of excellence in healthcare training, equipped with the most modern technologies and high-fidelity simulators, designed to realistically reproduce complex clinical scenarios. The first training activity of the Center took place on May 6: the course “Management of respiratory tract and difficult respiratory tract”, aimed at students in the 5th and 6th year of the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery and doctors in specialist training in the 1st and 2nd year of the School of Specialization in Anesthesia, Resuscitation, Intensive Care and Pain Therapy. The course was promoted by a scientific committee composed of Prof. Pierpaolo Terragni, President of the Master's Degree in Medicine and Surgery, Prof. Sandra Magnoni, Director of the Complex Structure of Anesthesia, Pain Medicine and Palliative Care, and Dr. Laura Pistidda, researcher and expert in simulation teaching, all belonging to the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Pharmacy of the University. After the first day of lessons held on May 6 by Prof. Magnoni and Dr. Pistidda, a second training session is scheduled for May 16.During the course, participants were able to practice with latest-generation high-fidelity mannequins, unique in the national training landscape, which allow the execution of complex maneuvers in simulated conditions of maximum verisimilitude. The practical activities included intubation techniques in critical situations, use of alternative devices and management of respiratory emergencies.“Having such advanced simulators represents an enormous added value for teaching,” says Professor Magnoni. “Technical skills, especially in delicate areas such as respiratory tract management, must be learned and consolidated with method. Simulation allows you to practice in a safe environment, accelerating the acquisition of fundamental skills for clinical practice.”The Medical Simulation Center covers an area of 450 square meters and can accommodate up to 50 students at a time. The numerous operating stations, advanced diagnostic equipment and integrated simulators allow training in numerous clinical areas, including anesthesia, emergencies, intensive care and minimally invasive surgery. Specific modules are also planned for procedures in the cardiology, neurological and vascular fields. The course “Difficult Airway Management” marks the beginning of an innovative and ambitious training path, with the aim of offering students and healthcare professionals an excellent educational experience, in step with the highest international standards.
