Hundreds of students at the 2024 University Sports Festival

The University Sports Festival took place on 13 June at the San Giovanni facilities, an event by CUS Sassari which, like every year, involved hundreds of students from the University of Sassari and beyond. Present at the event were the participants in the various activities proposed by CUS Sassari both at a local and national level, with the Uniss Cup and the National University Championships. The organizer of the event, the President of CUS Sassari Nicola Giordanelli, introduced the guests present at the event, starting with the Magnificent Rector of the University of Sassari Gavino Mariotti. Also present in the front rows were Severino Zara, Delegate of the Rector and Professor of the Department of Agriculture, the President of the Board of Directors of Ersu Daniele Maoddi, Eliana Fois (Board of Directors of Ersu), as well as Antonio Francesco Temussi (Director of the ERSU Administrative Officer), Marco Luppu (President of the Student Council) and Flavio Masala (Student Representative in the Sports Committee).

Statements from the Rector of the University of Sassari

The evening was opened by the President of CUS Sassari Nicola Giordanelli, who thanked those present and gave the floor to the Rector of the Turritano University, Gavino Mariotti. These are the statements of the Rector of the University of Sassari: “In the next few days I will speak with the Region and list the various improvements that need to be made to the University Sports Center of Sassari. For me, coming to this facility is always exciting, because as a boy I won several editions of the Uniss Cup, even after graduating." Finally, congratulations to the President Prof. Nicola Giordanelli: “In recent years the structure has retained the charm of previous years and for this we must thank President Giordanelli, who has been carrying out painstaking work for years”, concludes the Rector from Turrita. Once the Rector's speech concluded, President Giordanelli presented the members of the Board of Directors of CUS Sassari, with the new arrivals and those confirmed following the elections last April: Giorgio Giovanni Fenu, Antonio Giuseppe Eliseo Podda (known as “Bobo”), Claudio Venanzio Campus, Elisabetta Pinna and Simona Truddaiu. The awards All the various Academic Authorities and the Board of Directors of CUS Sassari then awarded the prized athletes and the various teams protagonists of the Uniss Cup and the National University Championships. As regards the CNU, the winners were Giulio Marzeddu, winner of the gold medal in freestyle taekwondo; Sarah Longoni silver medal, again in taekwondo, but in the forms specialty; Eleonora Piras in judo and Giovanni Spina in clay shooting. Before the start of the event, the Uniss CUP finals were held, won by Tettenham, who defeated Deportivo Aperitivo 3-0 and thus triumphed on their debut in the competition. In the Conference CUP, however, success was achieved by Gira la Ruota, who beat a reworked Skuarta Praga with a peremptory 5-1. The final of the tennis final was also played yesterday, with Alessandro Chessa's success against Mirko Mocci 4-6; 6-0; 10-8, winning a real battle only at the super tie-break. In padel, however, Nicolò Gueli and Luigi Piredda were awarded.
