Filter Semester Courses Begin

Semestre filtro II_Uniss_primo giorno

Classes for the so-called “filter semester” officially started today, Monday, September 1st. This new system replaces the traditional entrance exams for the single-cycle Master’s degree programs in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, and Veterinary Medicine.

Over 800 of the 976 enrolled students attended the first lectures, distributed across five classrooms at the Piandanna teaching hub and connected via videoconference. To warmly welcome and encourage the many students present, the Rector of the University of Sassari, Gavino Mariotti, the Vice Rector for Teaching, Pietro Pulina, Professor Corrado Rubino, President of the coordinating body of the Faculty of Medicine, and Pierpaolo Terragni, President of the Medicine degree program, all took part in the opening.

The cycle of courses in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Introductory Biochemistry will end on November 30, with exam sessions scheduled for November 20 and December 10.

The timetable for the filter semester is available on the platform orario.uniss.it.

The Students’ Voices

Gabriele, Anna, Elisabetta, and Aurora—tired after a long day of classes but visibly hopeful—agreed to share their impressions.

“I come from a Scientific High School and I found the first day very stimulating,” says Gabriele, almost 19 years old, “especially the Physics lecture. For the future, I have several options, but the specializations I would prefer are Cardiology and Psychiatry. I had never tried the entrance exam before, but I had already started studying with the idea of taking it. I expect the filter semester to be very stimulating, especially for the contact we’ll have with classmates and professors, who can help us prepare in the best possible way from every angle, especially the psychological one, in view of the exams on November 20 and December 10.”

“My name is Anna and I attended the first day of filter semester classes in Medicine. It was a tiring day, after the holidays, but overall a good one. The professors were all competent, calm, and kind. I would like to become a gynecologist. I expect it will be very challenging to follow these subjects, especially for someone like me who studied at an Arts High School. But I hope, and I expect, that it will be a fair selection and a rewarding experience, no matter how it turns out.”

Elisabetta and Aurora came from afar—Cabras and Marrubiu—to pursue their dream of wearing a white coat. “I would like to become a cardiologist and I don’t have a plan B: I am very determined to get into Medicine,” says Elisabetta. “I would like to become a pediatrician, but I do have a plan B, since I am already enrolled in Nursing,” concludes Aurora.
