Educational plan and teaching rules

To complete the PhD Course, PhD students must obtain 180 CFRs (Research Credits) over the three years of the PhD Course.

Credits are awarded following:

  • Research project: activity on the research project and writing of the thesis. If part of the research activity is carried out abroad through the Erasmus mobility programmes, 3 CFR are recognised, within the total 120 CFR available, for each month spent abroad. In the case of fractions of a month, 1.5 CFR will be recognised for a period of at least 15 days.
  • Individual study
  • Teaching activities of the Courses and of the PhD School:
    • attendance must be at least 70% of the hours for PhD students in receipt of a grant awarded for attendance of the PhD Course and 30% for those without a grant;
    • attendance must be collected by the lecturer;
    • attendance entitles the student to sit the examination, where applicable. Positive evaluation is equivalent to the attainment of the corresponding CFRs.
  • Other activities:
    • Participation in seminars, conferences, courses, etc. of the PhD student's choice;
    • tutoring activities in support of internships and research by three-year and master's degree students;
    • supplementary teaching activities, which may be conducted for a maximum of 40 hours per year. 

Definition of "other activities"

  • Participation in seminars, conferences, courses, etc. outside the PhD Courses of the University of Sassari, at the PhD student's choice:
    • must be agreed with the Supervisor;
    • the PhD student must request a certificate of participation in these activities in order to acquire the assigned CFRs.
  • Conducting tutoring activities in support of internships and research of PhD students:
    • must be authorised by the PhD Council and relate to topics related to the PhD student's research;
    • CFRs are recognised with a declaration by the supervising professor (maximum of 2.5 CFRs per thesis and 5 CFRs per academic year).
  • Supplementary teaching activities, as defined in Art. 2(1)(d) of the Regulation on the Conferral of Teaching Assignments:
    • PhD students may conduct them up to a maximum of 40 hours per year, in accordance with the Regulations of the Doctoral School;
    • Permission from the Doctoral Council is required;
    • Integrative teaching activities are understood as seminar, exercise, laboratory and teaching activities that are preparatory to the awarding of credits and are not part of the PhD Course or Doctoral School programme. The assessment of their eligibility is referred to the PhD Course Council.
