Marina Loddo: Erasmus, a life experience that opens you up to the world

Erasmus: a life experience that opens you up to the world. Here is the story of Marina Loddo, Master's student in Architecture.

Erasmus in Sweden, why?

I wanted to experiece a lifestyle and an environment which were completely different from ours. I wanted to have unique experiences, such as seeing the Northern Lights, walking on the frozen sea to an island, venturing through endless forests to find myself admiring breathtaking views and even bathing in the Arctic Ocean. There, every moment is precious, like ordinary bike rides and skating on the pond near home. Furthermore, I wanted to find out what job opportunities Sweden offered and start networking if I decided to return.

The best aspects of your Erasmus

The welcome and dedication of the ESN of Luleå and the university were decisive: they made us feel welcome and managed to create, through the services, activities and events organised, a strong bond so it was easy to settle in and find friends to share the experience with. LTU students have a very strong sense of identity and a propensity to help others.

Did you have any difficulties?

For me, the greatest difficulty was adjusting to long trips by bicycle and in all weather conditions: rain, wind, ice, snow... it doesn't matter, you go!

What has this experience brought you?

The desire to have a simpler, more sustainable lifestyle like them, and the realisation that there is no limit that holds if there is the will to overcome it and the ability to enjoy the little things.

If you had to advise a colleague about Erasmus, what would you say?

Don't think too much, just go for it! Take every opportunity even if it scares you, even if you think you won't make it... somehow you will make it, and if not, at least you tried!

P.S.: buy a bike now, participate in hockey practice from the start and travel as much as you can!
