UNISS participates in the kick-off meeting of the European alliance EUNICoast 21 February 2025 The West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin (Poland) hosted the EUNICoast kick-off meeting from 21 to 23 January 2025 The European Alliance of Islands, ports and coastal territories , the innovative alliance of European universities funded by the European Commission. The event brought together over 40 representatives of 12 partner universities from 11 countries, marking the operational launch of this ambitious initiative. During the three days of work, the Steering Committee and the Council of Rectors met in person for the first time, outlining the operational strategies of the alliance. Participants defined the guiding principles and timelines for the project's seven work packages, focusing on crucial aspects such as coordinating activities and optimizing internal communication within the consortium. EUNICoast represents a unique opportunity to create synergies between universities in Europe's coastal regions. The strategic areas of academic collaboration include five thematic areas: Identity and Cultural Heritage, for the enhancement of local identities and cultural heritage Blue Economy and Sustainable Tourism for sustainable economic development of coastal areas Governance and Management of Coastal Communities, for the planning and sustainable management of the territory Health and Biodiversity, for the protection of the environment and marine resources, from a One-Health perspective Technological and Engineering Solutions, for technological innovation for coastal areas The program included technical visits to the world-class laboratories of the West Pomeranian University of Technology, with a focus on three key faculties: the Faculty of Technology and Maritime Transport (Department of Structural Mechanics), the Faculty of Food and Fisheries Sciences and the Faculty of Environmental Management and Agriculture (Department of Renewable Energy Engineering). The EUNICoast alliance includes numerous student mobility initiatives, innovative training programs, joint research projects, community engagement activities, with the aim of creating a european inter-university campus dedicated to the sustainable development of coastal areas, which cooperates constructively with local communities.
