PRESS RELEASE

SASSARI. On Thursday, September 11 at 8:30 p.m., the Church of Santa Caterina will host the return to Sassari of the international music initiative “Notes Beyond Borders – Music that Unis(s)ce”, promoted by the Choir of the University of Sassari. The evening will feature the music of W.A. Mozart and F. Mendelssohn, with Italian and German choirs and musicians taking center stage.

The project was launched in 2019 through a collaboration between the Uniss Choir and the Symphony Orchestra of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, led by Maestro Uwe Sochaczewsky, with the participation of the Polyphonic Choir Turritano conducted by Maestro Laura Lambroni. Since then, this partnership has offered audiences memorable performances: from the Sardinian premiere of Rheinberger’s Mass in C major to the majestic concert at the Schutzengelkirche in Eichstätt, with over 150 singers and instrumentalists performing Gounod’s Solemn Mass in honor of Saint Cecilia.

Now, thanks to a new cultural exchange, the German Symphony Orchestra returns to Sardinia with 52 young instrumentalists, hosted at the facilities of Ersu (Regional Authority for the Right to Education) and ready to share in city life while awaiting the concert. Joining them on stage will be the Choir of the University of Sassari, prepared by Maestro Ciro Cau, and the Polyphonic Choir Turritano, conducted by Maestro Lambroni. Once again, Maestro Sochaczewsky will lead the ensemble.

The event is part of the Sassari Estate program promoted by the Municipality of Sassari, and will be repeated on Friday, September 12 at 9:00 p.m. in the Basilica of San Gavino in Porto Torres, within the prestigious international festival “Voci d’Europa.”
