The Rector and the meeting with the French Ambassador visiting the university 14 February 2023 The Magnificent Rector of the University of Sassari, Prof. Gavino Mariotti, welcomed this morning the Ambassador of the Republic of France to Italy, Christian Masset, accompanied by Fabrice Maiolino, French Consul General in Rome, and the Consul of France in Sassari, Giovanni Pinna Parpaglia.After welcoming the French diplomatic representative, Prof. Mariotti accompanied him on a tour of the university's historic building, illustrating the history and key figures of the 461 years of the University of Sassari's existence, before hosting him in his private office, where they discussed the development of institutional, cultural, and scientific collaboration between the academic worlds of their countries.The ambassador, thanking the Magnificent Rector for the warm welcome, emphasized how the entrance and the visit to the palace convey the enthusiasm, pride, and history of this university, not only in the academic world but also in the political life of the country, with the two Presidents of the Republic he mentioned, Antonio Segni and Francesco Cossiga, and other prominent figures such as Enrico Berlinguer.The French diplomat appreciated and expressed interest in the agreements that our University has with many French universities and, with a view to further developing cultural and research relations, highlighted how the University of Sassari could become a reference point in Sardinia.
