Posidonia washed up on the beach, the University is looking for fruits and seeds 1 April 2025 Thanks to the help of willing citizens, the Marine Ecology Researchers of the University of Sassari have had the opportunity to study the effect of climate change on the development of shoots of the Posidonia oceanica plant. This year too, we need your support: in spring 2025, it will be possible to witness the beaching of Posidonia oceanica fruits and seeds (pictured) along all the coasts of Sardinia. This event, since it does not happen every year, represents an important opportunity for their study. Through your reporting, it will be possible to recover the material and continue to study in depth the effect of climate change on the development of shoots in their first year of life. The application purpose would be to use them in Posidonia Restoration interventions, which are currently increasingly present in the Sardinian territory. The advantage of using beached fruits and seeds is to avoid a direct collection of cuttings from the meadows, and to use a material that would be compromised by possible drying. Any enthusiast who wants to report a sighting of fruits and seeds at any Sardinian coastal location, we kindly ask you to provide us with data on the date, place and quantity of seeds and fruits by contacting the following numbers: Arianna Pansini tel 3290418721 mail apansini@uniss.it Alessia Crobu tel 3478338807 mail acrobu@uniss.it Thank you for your collaboration!
