Faster healing with Sardinian helichrysum 3 June 2025 Professor Margherita Maioli, Full Professor of Cellular and Applied Biology at the University of Sassari, together with Doctors Diletta Serra and Sara Cruciani and Doctor Giuseppe Garroni - in collaboration with the Asinara Park - are developing a project to enhance the properties of Sardinian helichrysum, a medicinal plant that has been discovered to allow skin regeneration in a very short time, thanks to its antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The extract of this native plant, provided by Professor Giorgio Pintore, combined with biodegradable nanofibers, has allowed the development of a cutting-edge therapeutic system. The potential therapeutic applications consist of plasters and bandages for chronic wounds, burns or other skin lesions. Professor Antonio Brunetti, Full Professor of Physics at the University of Sassari, contributed to the research and, in collaboration with the CNR of Trieste, has deepened the study on the regenerative effects observed.
