The 463rd academic year of the University of Sassari has been inaugurated

The Rector of the University of Sassari, Gavino Mariotti, officially opened the 463rd academic year of the University of Sassari in the Aula Magna of the historic University building. Guest of honor was the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci, who was welcomed in Piazza Università by the Mayor of Sassari Giuseppe Mascia, by the Extraordinary Administrator of the Metropolitan City of Sassari, Gavino Arru, by the Prefect Grazia La Fauci, by the Regional Councilor for Tourism, Crafts and Commerce, Franco Cuccureddu - representing the President Alessandra Todde -, and by the Rector. The ceremony began with the performance of the choir of the University of Sassari directed by maestro Ciro Cau. After the entrance of the academic procession to the notes of the university anthem "Gaudeamus igitur", the Italian national anthem sung by tenor Francesco Demuro aroused strong emotion, a presence that further enriched today's event. Immediately after, the mayor of Sassari, Giuseppe Mascia, and Franco Cuccureddu for the Sardinia Region took the floor for institutional greetings. Among the many authorities present, three other regional councilors: Desirè Manca (Work, Professional Training, Cooperation and Social Security) Armando Bartolazzi (Councillor for Hygiene and Health and Social Assistance) and Antonio Piu (Public Works). On this occasion, the university also welcomed the Rectors of the University of Molise, Luca Brunese, and the University of Andorra, Juli Minoves Triquell.

Then, the Rector described in his inaugural speech the results achieved by the university in the last year. The following spoke subsequently: Antonio Bilotta, President of the Student Council, Paola Murru representing the technical, administrative and library staff, and in closing Orazio Schillaci, Minister of Health (here is his relation).

Professor Orazio Schillaci, a doctor, is the Minister of Health of the Government chaired by the Hon. Giorgia Meloni. Rector of the University of Tor Vergata until October 2022, he has held roles in numerous scientific bodies. He is the author of over 350 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. Minister Schillaci received the seal of the University of Sassari as a gift.

This year too, the long-awaited address by the Pontifex Maximus of the Goliardica Turritana Association, Pantaleone II Magister Artium, aka Andrea Lubrano, was not missing.
