Conference - 40 years of development cooperation in biomedicine

The Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Sassari celebrates forty years of development cooperation projects in biomedicine with a dedicated conference. The event, scheduled for 10 October at 9:00 am at the Magna classroom of the biomedical complex of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (Viale San Pietro 43/b), will bring together institutions, academics and organizations that over the years have contributed to building collaboration networks between Italy and numerous countries of Africa, Middle East and South-East Asian.

After the institutional greetings of the director of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Prof. Franca Deriu , of the magnificent rector Prof. Gavino Mariotti and of the mayor of Sassari Dr. Giuseppe Mascia , the works will be open by an introductory lectio of the Prof. Pietro Cappuccinelli , Emeritus professor of the University of Sassari and member of the Accademia dei Lincei.

Among the main contributions include the interventions of the Dr. Federico Chiodi Daelli , operational director of the NGO Aispo, and of the Dr. Annamaria Iotti , representative of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. Following, a series of thematic sessions will deepen experiences in the various partner countries: Sudan, Vietnam, Egypt, Kurdistan and Mozambique.

Important guests such as the Prof. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy , Rector of the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Vietnam), and numerous researchers and operators of international cooperation will bring direct testimonies on the projects carried out on the field.

The day will end with the voices of former students involved in the mobility and research projects, including the Dr. Saverio Bellizzi (World Health Organization, Geneva) and the Dr. Beatrice Zauli (San Francesco di Nuoro hospital), demonstrating the impact that these experiences have had on the training and careers of young professionals.

The conference represents an opportunity to reflect on the results achieved in forty years of cooperation to the development of biomedicine and to look to the future of a network of scientific solidarity that unites Sassari in the world.
