Prize for the two best PhD theses As of 2024, the University of Sassari and its PhD School provide for the awarding of two cash prizes for the best PhD theses to PhD students who have obtained the title of Doctor in our University.The PhD School's aim is to valorise its PhD students, their research work and the results obtained. Along with the two cash prizes, the committee also awards special mention certificates to the most significant theses.The prizes are awarded on the occasion of PhD Day, an event that takes place in the University's Aula Magna every year in late spring. Winners of the 2025 competition The second edition of the PhD School prize was won by Dr Alessia Manca and Dr Simone Nobili.Dr Alessia Manca, PhD in Life Sciences and Biotechnologies (cycle XXXVI), won the prize with her thesis entitled “Investigation on microgravity-driven effects to facilitate space exploration: focus on human cell lines and cyanobacteria”.Dr Simone Nobili, who obtained his doctorate in Economics, Management, and Quantitative Methods (cycle XXXVI), was awarded the prize for his thesis entitled “Essays on Structural Macroeconomic Shifts”. Winners of the 2024 competition The first edition of the prize was won by Dr Cinzia Roggio and Dr Giuseppe Garroni.Dr. Cinzia Roggio, PhD in Archaeology, History and Human Sciences (XXXV cycle), was awarded the prize for her thesis entitled “Bioarchaeology of a medieval population in North-Western Sardinia: the cemetery and ossuary of the abandoned village of Geridu (13th-14th century)”.Dr. Giuseppe Garroni, PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Medical Genetics curriculum (XXXIV cycle) was awarded the prize for his thesis entitled “Environmental behaviour influences stem cell fate”.
