Outline, texts and goals 

Professional status.
The professional activity of the graduate in Livestock Production Science takes place mainly in the following contexts: agro-livestock companies, feed industries, livestock product processing companies, public and private research and education organisations, as well as those involved in control and certification activities, and as an agronomist free lance. In these working environments, the graduate in Animal Production Sciences can carry out tasks of coordination of working groups, management of production facilities and can interact with other professional figures such as veterinarians, chemists, economists, engineers.
Expertise associated with the function. The Expertise of the graduate competences of the Master's Degree in Science of Livestock Production will allow him/her to use in an integrated way the various tools (genetic improvement, feeding and breeding technologies) for the improvement of main terrestrial and aquatic livestock production systems, for developing innovative production processes, for managing and controlling farming systems of wild species, for developing and applying methodologies for the control and certification of product and process quality in the various livestock industries; for implementing the planning and economic management of the livestock enterprise and of marketing of its products; for assessing and managing the eco-compatibility of the livestock enterprise.
The most relevant professional opportunities are those indicated as technical professions in the life sciences (ISTAT code 3.2. of the Classifications of Occupations, 2001). and in particular those indicated in class 3.2.2.2., specific to the Animal Science.

Specific learning outcomes

The program of the Laurea Magistrale in Livestock Production Science aims to provide specialist knowledge and skills for the management, design, and technological control of production processes and quality in the various animal production chains, including aquaculture. The course of study is oriented towards the training of a versatile professional figure, with wide employment possibilities, having advanced skills in the various fields of animal science (genetics and breeding, animal nutrition and feeding, reproduction, livestock process and system modelling), agricultural engineering (design and project of zootechnical buildings, agronomy (herbaceous and fodder crops), agricultural economics (economic policies and marketing of livestock production), food and animal product safety, environmental impact of livestock farming and veterinary prophylaxis.
The activity of the graduate is oriented towards: i) the improvement of livestock production processes, in order to obtain high quality and safe products, including functional foods and product. Ii) the certification of process and product quality of livestock and fishery chains; iii) the optimisation of feedstuff production and processing of products of animal origin; iv) the eco-compatible energy management of the livestock industry; v) the economic policies and marketing of the livestock industry; vi) the economic, social and environmental sustainability of livestock industry.  The professional activity is developed in several livestock systems, in companies and industries of the animal and fish production chains, in quality and/or typicality production consortia, in protected areas
