Specific learning outcomes

The Bachelor's Degree Programme in Sports Sciences and Human Well-being aims to develop basic scientific knowledge and skills in the various fields of human physical activity, acting in an integrated manner across the different disciplinary areas in order to build a professional figure able to enter the workplace promptly. The course of study includes educational activities in the biomedical, technical-sports, educational and well-being, and professionalising areas; credits are also provided for the knowledge of the English language and for the final examination, as well as for activities chosen by the student; some credits are reserved for the category “other knowledge for the job market”.
In the biomedical area, students acquire knowledge of the anatomical structure, biochemical foundations and physiological mechanisms of the organs and systems of the human body underlying normal functions and homeostasis, both at rest and during physical activity; in particular, knowledge of the cardiorespiratory and neuroendocrine systems and of the musculoskeletal system will be deepened in relation to movement and its biomechanics; the basics of correct nutrition and the nutritional needs of the body; all within a general context that takes into account gender differences and the different stages of life, regarding the type and intensity of physical activity; students will also acquire knowledge of the basics of epidemiology and the main measures for preventing the risk of infectious and multifactorial diseases, as well as knowledge of the basic concepts of pathophysiology and clinical aspects relating to the main cardiovascular and dysmetabolic conditions, together with the fundamental knowledge needed to recognise possible injuries, their causes during motor activity, and the diagnostic and treatment pathway for an injury, basic notions of first aid and BLS-D, and notions of doping. In the technical-sports area, students acquire knowledge relating to the classification and functions of human movement and postural and dynamic motor patterns, and to anthropometric assessment; the general theory and methodology of the various individual and team sports and of motor activities in water and outdoors in unstructured contexts and non-codified environments, and the methods of using them in educational, recreational and sports contexts; assessment of motor activities for achieving and maintaining physical efficiency, health and psycho-physical well-being; techniques and teaching methods for movement at different ages – developmental, adult and elderly – and in different application areas (educational, sports, occupational, outdoor life, etc.); teaching techniques and tools for adapted, compensatory and preventive motor and sports activity for people with specific conditions and disabilities. In the educational and well-being area, students acquire the basic pedagogical and didactic knowledge needed to independently design and conduct a motor activity pathway suited to the different stages of life and to different settings, both motor and sports/recreational; the foundations of the legal and economic structure and functioning of sports organisations at national and European Union level; the collection of performance-related data and the foundations of motor and sports data processing and analysis. The programme includes an English language course enabling students to reach a B1 level, which is essential for the proper use of the most up-to-date scientific and technical knowledge, as well as for carrying out one's profession in an increasingly globalised world. In the professionalising area, through participation in practical traineeship and internship activities, under the supervision and guidance of lecturers and specifically appointed tutors, students acquire the knowledge and tools needed to enter the workplace in the field of individual and team motor and sports activities, teaching and educational activities, outdoor activities, and the sector of adapted, compensatory and preventive activities, with attention to the psycho-physical well-being of the practitioner; these activities take place, in facilities suited to the number of students and to the activity planned, at the sports facilities of the CUS (University Sports Centre) of the University of Sassari, as well as at lower and upper secondary schools and at public and private bodies, Sports and Social Promotion Bodies and sports clubs, including those affiliated with CONI, with which agreements are in place. Credits are also provided for activities chosen by the student, and some credits are reserved for the category “other knowledge useful for entry into the workplace”, through training events such as workshops and seminars with leading local, national and international organisations operating in the field of motor and sports activities, including at professional level, and with the world of school education.
