Inclusion and disability: the "Farace Awards" delivered

They managed to communicate what disability can mean with sensitivity, delicacy, aesthetic taste and technical ability, which is why the judging commission of the "Farace Prize" of the University of Sassari awarded them three prizes of 1000 euros: one shared between Maria Gabriella Desole and Giorgia Pippia, one to Sofia Urgeghe and one to Gaia Pintus, all students of the Figari artistic high school in Sassari. Special mention to Sara Tanca.

The four graphic works stood out among all those who participated in the competition named in memory of the researcher Francesco Farace, now in its 22nd edition, organized by the Student Orientation and Services Office of the University of Sassari for classes III, IV and V of secondary schools in the provinces of Sassari, Olbia-Tempio, Nuoro and Oristano. 

The Rector Gavino Mariotti, the president of the Judging Commission Franca Mele, point of reference and driving force behind the Farace Prize, the Rector's delegate for Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders, Giovanni Pruneddu, attended the awards ceremony.  and Corrado Rubino, Francesco Farace's teacher, who testified to the never-ending pain of the premature loss of a student, Francesco Farace, who was also a capable and passionate plastic surgery researcher.

Francesco Farace he was a plastic surgeon and researcher at the University of Sassari, who died prematurely at the age of 42. His life was marked by commitment to scientific research, assistance and teaching.

Since 2002 he has served as a Researcher at the Chair of Plastic Surgery at the University of Sassari, also participating in the activities of the Complex Plastic Surgery Operational Unit and the Major Burns Centre. Subsequently he became Adjunct Professor and Specialist Medical Director at the University Hospital of Sassari. In 2011 he obtained the II level Master's degree in Breast Reconstructive Surgery at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome.

During his training he attended numerous Plastic Surgery departments in Italy and abroad, including the Queen Victoria Hospital, the Northwick Park Hospital, the Institut de la Main in Paris, the University of Gothenburg and the National Cancer Institute in Milan.

He taught in Medicine and Surgery, Physiotherapy, Obstetrics and Dentistry courses at the University of Sassari and took part in numerous national and international conferences as a speaker and moderator. During his career he stood out for his competence, dedication and humanity, values ​​that the "Farace Award" of the University of Sassari continues to celebrate over time.
