Nell'ambito del programma Erasmus+ ICM mobility, il professor Jesus Antonio Garcia Sanchez dell'Università di Itajubà (Brasile) terrà un seminario dal titolo 

Metamaterials: Civil and Mechanical Engineering Applications 

The paper introduces mechanical metamaterials and their unique properties derived from engineered internal structures. We will explain key principles such as hetereogeneity, scale and periodicity, the types of mechanical metamaterials and the counter-intuitive properties that can be obtained (e.g. negative Poisson's ratio). We then explore applications in acoustics, for sound and vibration control, and in earthquake engineering, where metamaterials can help protect structures by redirecting seismic waves.
