PRESS RELEASE

SASSARI – The University of Sassari has once again been confirmed as one of Italy’s most highly regarded universities, according to the latest Censis 2025/26 ranking. In the category of medium-sized state universities (with between 10,000 and 20,000 students), the University ranks fourth nationally, with an overall score of 88.8. While this marks a slight decline from the previous year, it nonetheless reflects the strength of Sassari’s academic system and the overall quality of its services and facilities.

Only well-established institutions such as Trento, Udine, and Marche Polytechnic rank ahead of Sassari—universities that, like Sassari, share a strong regional identity and a growing commitment to the quality of education. Also close behind in this top-tier group are universities such as Trieste, Venice, and Eastern Piedmont, confirming the University of Sassari’s highly competitive standing.

A major highlight of the ranking is the first-place national ranking of the Veterinary Medicine degree program among all single-cycle master's degrees in Italy. This top distinction recognizes the extensive work carried out by the Department and the University as a whole, with the crucial support of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia. The Region has invested over €1.7 million in revitalizing the Sassari Veterinary Teaching Hospital—an essential facility not only for teaching, but also for clinical research and animal care. The most concrete result of this effort came in June 2025, when the course received prestigious European accreditation from EAEVE (European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education), certifying full compliance with European standards in veterinary education.

The University of Sassari also ranked first among medium-sized universities in the category of campus infrastructure, reflecting strong investments in study spaces, libraries, laboratories, and teaching facilities. Notably, the University also placed fourth in student services, recognizing its ability to provide meaningful support in areas such as scholarships, housing, and dedicated student services.

Aware of the growing importance of institutional communication, the University has launched a structured initiative to strengthen its digital presence and engagement with the student community. A new Communication Manual has been developed, providing operational guidelines for managing the University’s web and social channels. Department websites are being fully redesigned—with completion expected by September 30—and communication officers have been appointed within each department. Additionally, through the eINS PNRR project, the University has appointed a multimedia content creator to support its outreach and orientation efforts.

Starting in fall 2025, the University will launch new communication campaigns aimed primarily at high school students and prospective enrollees. These include the launch of an official institutional podcast and a new TikTok channel, both designed to present university life, degree programs, and academic opportunities in a dynamic and engaging way.

“Being ranked number one in Veterinary Medicine at the national level is a remarkable achievement,” said the Rector, “but above all, it motivates us to continue investing in quality, innovation, and our relationship with students. The Censis results confirm that our University is strong, attractive, and deeply connected to its territory—ready to face future challenges with courage and vision.”
