PRESS RELEASE

SASSARI. Geopolitical conflicts, economic protectionism, and deglobalization processes are deeply reshaping the Mediterranean region, making it a crucial crossroads for international dynamics. These are the central themes of the workshop organized by the Department of Economics and Business of the University of Sassari, in collaboration with MEDAERE (Mediterranean Association of Environmental and Resource Economists).

The event will take place on Thursday, July 10, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM in Room B1 of the department, located at Via Muroni 25. Remote participation is also possible by registering through a dedicated online form.

International scholars and experts will contribute to the discussion on key issues for the region’s sustainability: what impact will trade tariffs have on Mediterranean economies and the environment? What role can Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) play in the region? How can effective cooperation be promoted among Mediterranean countries on environmental policies?

The event will be coordinated by Professor Simone Borghesi, a prominent figure in the international field, currently Director of FSR Climate at the European University Institute in Florence (fsr.eui.eu/climate) and President of EAERE – European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (eaere.org/board).

Speakers include Sevil Acar (Boğaziçi University), Mira Manini Tiwari (European University Institute), Chahir Zaki (University of Orléans), and Simone Borghesi himself (University of Siena).

The workshop stands as further evidence of the University of Sassari’s commitment to offering insights and possible interpretations of a complex, intricate, and ever-changing reality.
