Inauguration of the new teaching building of the Department of Agriculture 31 October 2024 PRESS RELEASESASSARI. On Thursday 7 November at 11.00 the Rector of the University of Sassari, Gavino Mariotti, will inaugurate the new teaching building built in the area of the University's Agriculture Department, which will be named after Antonio Segni, in the presence of his son Mariotto. In fact, the President Emeritus of the Italian Republic, as well as the former Rector of the University of Sassari, deserves credit for having founded the Faculty of Agriculture in 1946 and laid the foundation stone of the current building in 1963.The three-storey structure includes the new department library on the ground floor, 4 classrooms on the 1st floor and the 330-seat lecture hall on the 2nd floor which will host the inauguration ceremony, all accessible to people with disabilities, and equipped of multimedia equipment for video projections, distance learning and simultaneous translations. In the building there are also two student classrooms (student hub) with a total of 30 seats as well as 2 underground car parks and book storage.The event will open with the unveiling of the plaque, the cutting of the ribbon and the blessing of the entrance to the teaching building by Archbishop Monsignor Gianfranco Saba. The ceremony will continue in the main hall with greetings from the Magnificent Rector Mariotti, the Mayor of Sassari Giuseppe Mascia, the director of the Department of Agriculture, Ignazio Floris, the Pro-Rector for Teaching, Pietro Pulina, the Representative of the students in the Council of the Department of Agriculture, Sara Masala.This will be followed by a speech by Simone Loddo, manager of the procurement and construction area, aimed at illustrating the work for the construction of the building. The vice-rector for Research Giuseppe Pulina will give a short talk entitled "Higher education in agriculture in Italy: from unification to the foundation of the Faculty of Sassari"; finally, a speech by Professor Mariotto Segni is expected.Journalists are invited to participate.Entrance from viale Italia 39/A.
