The Aula Magna of the University of Sassari recently hosted the Palmes Académiques ceremony, aimed at awarding the Order of Academic Palms to scholars and educators who have distinguished themselves in particular in the teaching of the French language. Established by Napoleon Bonaparte, the civil recognition is awarded by the French Ministry of Education on the proposal of the French Embassy in Italy.On this occasion, the Palmes medal with the rank of Officier was awarded to Professor Carmen Marongiu, French language teacher at the Eleonora d'Arborea Linguistic Institute in Cagliari, while Professor Lorenzo Devilla of the University of Sassari was awarded the Palmes with the rank of Chevalier.The ceremony opened with greetings from the Rector, Gavino Mariotti. The Consul General of France in Rome, Fabrice Maiolino, and the cultural attaché of the Institut Francais, Leila Chaib, were present.Lorenzo Devilla is Associate Professor of French Language at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sassari. He obtained a PhD in French Studies at the University of Grenoble, where he was also a lecturer in Italian Language. He is the Rector's Delegate for Internationalization for the Humanities and President of the degree course in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation. He was Visiting Professor at the universities of Montpellier, Mulhouse Haute-Alsace and Corsica. He is a member of the board of the Association of French Language Teachers Dorif-University and of the college of the doctoral school in Cultures, Literatures, Rights, Tourism and Territory. He is the tutor of several doctoral theses and is responsible for the qualifying training courses for French language teachers in schools.Carmen Marongiu teaches French Language and Literature at the Eleonora d'Arborea Linguistic High School in Cagliari. In 1996, she won the National Selection for the recruitment of trainers for the Special Foreign Language Project (PSLS). She was a supervisor at the SSIS school at the University of Cagliari and a trainer for Poseidon. Marongiu is a member of the association Lingua e Nuova Didattica (LEND) and was part of the secretariat. Head of the local Cagliari group since 2016, she has organized numerous refresher courses on CLIL, Language Portfolios, Erasmus, evaluation and theatrical activities. She published the article “Cinema at school – An initiative by LEND and BCLA for the 2008/2009 school year and some operational proposals” on Lingua e Nuova Didattica. Appointed by the Prime Minister of the French Republic Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques in 2008 and Officier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques in 2022.
