"Michele Siotto" Excellence Award 14 March 2024 The prize, worth €1,000, will be awarded annually to the top graduate of the Nursing course at the University of Sassari, whose thesis focuses on the delicate relationship between the nurse and the oncology patient.The prize has been funded and strongly advocated for by the Siotto family, particularly by Agnese Siotto, sister of Michele, a city councilor in Nuoro and a fervent activist in defending the rights of oncology patients.Agnese expressed the desire to establish this award as a token of gratitude to those who lovingly assisted her brother during his hospitalization at the "San Francesco" clinic in Nuoro.Michele Siotto, before his untimely passing in July 2022, was an active member of the "Living in Colors" association, of which he was a founding member, committed to advocating for oncology patients.The prize not only honors the memory of Michele Siotto but also aims to promote research and deeper understanding of issues related to oncology nursing care. It is expected that this award will encourage students to dedicate themselves with commitment and passion to the study of this important area of healthcare, carrying forward Michele Siotto's legacy in defending the rights and well-being of cancer patients.The Siotto family and the University of Sassari invite nursing students to actively participate in this initiative, thus contributing to the growth and improvement of the quality of healthcare provided to oncology patients.The participation announcement will be managed by the Nursing degree program and will soon be available on the University's website.
