Residency
The Division of Experimental Pathology and Oncology of DBS includes the residency in Clinical Pathology. This School is open to Medical Doctors and graduates in Biological Sciences and Pharmacy. At the end of five years, during which the students follow a number of theoretical and practical courses. A Thesis (preferentially experimental) is presented and discussed with a Committee, constituted by the School teachers, in order to obtain a Diploma in Clinical Pathology.
The residency in Clinical Pathology is aimed, principally, at preparing graduate personnel for Clinical Chemistry Laboratories. The areas covered by the Clinical Pathology School include: Laboratory technology, Molecular Biology and Molecular Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Biophysics, General Microbiology and General Pathology, Oncology, Pathophysiology, Genetics, Hematology, Cytology, Forensic Medicine. In addition, the students attend researche laboratories to prepare their Thesis. Practical training of residents is performed in clinical pathology, molecular pathology, biochemistry, hematology, blood transfusion, histochemistry, imunohistochemistry laboratories.
Residency in Clinical Pathology has been introduced in 1982, in our University. At that time this School was named General Pathology. In 1993 the School name and programs were revised, and both have been accepted by the European Community. Consequently, the Diploma in Clinical Chemistry, obtained in DBS is recognized by the Countries of European Community.
The directors of the General Pathology/Clinical
Pathology School were Dr. F. Feo, from 1982 to 1996, and Dr. R.M. Pascale from
1997 to present.
